Wreaths Across America

banner-wreathThe Pinckney Historical Cemetery is the only official Livingston County cemetery participating with the national organization Wreaths Across America (WAA).  The mission of the group is to “Remember, Honor, Teach” and is carried out in part by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies on a specified Saturday in December at Arlington, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.  We also organize a week of events, including international veteran’s tributes, ceremonies at State Houses and a week-long “Veteran’s Parade” between Maine and Virginia, where we stop along the way to spread our message about the importance of remembering our fallen heroes, honoring those who serve, and teaching our children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms.”

We are tremendously honored to be a part of this amazing event!  This is yet another way that the cemetery works to honor our past, especially our veterans.

WAA will provide the cemetery with seven customized wreaths honoring each branch of military service.  At noon, across the county, all participating cemeteries will participate in a small local program honoring our local veterans and recognizing those that sponsored local wreaths.  In Pinckney, the cemetery board, along with members of the American Legion in Hamburg, will place the seven ceremonial wreaths and then they, along with numerous local volunteers, will place custom-ordered wreaths on specific gravestones.

Individuals can purchase wreaths here through our fundraising group.  When you purchase through the fundraising group, instead of directly through the main donation page, the village receives two wreaths for the price of one.

Select the Village of Pinckney Cemetery as the location.

Don’t have a specific vet in our cemetery to honor?  You can still make a donation and WAA will send us wreaths to place on un-sponsored veteran sites.  Our first priority will be veteran sites in the oldest section of the cemetery.
