Garbage & Recycling

Garbage and recycling

The Village of Pinckney takes pride in offering several environmentally responsible options for trash disposal. The quarterly charge for residential service is $38.44, plus a $12.30 charge for leaf and brush collection, and is included in your Village utility bill (see water and sewer for more details). Rates will increase July 1, 2022.

2024 Refuse & Recycling Schedule

Starting June 23, Granger Waste Services will begin delivering new trash and recycling carts to residents. Check your mail for more information on service changes, which will start with the July 7 collection (collection that week will be on Thursday due to the 4th of July holiday). The new carts will allow Granger to use automated side-load “arms” to pick up and empty the carts. Use of the new carts is required by Granger – individual trash cans will no longer be emptied. If you wish to get rid of your own cans, Granger will pick them up as trash if they are clearly marked as such. You may keep your recycling bin or leave it out for Granger to remove.

You can start using your carts as soon as you receive them. If you are already renting carts from Granger, the only thing that will change is your billing. Carts are now included in the quarterly fee, which will be increasing for everyone.

Residents can contact Jill Chapman, Village Clerk, with any questions at clerk@villageofpinckney.org, or (734) 878-6206.

Weekly trash pick-up is provided on Wednesdays by Granger Waste Services.  There is an eight bag limit per service day, with a 30 lb weight limit per bag, and bags should be no larger than 30-gallon bags. If you are using the 96-gallon cart service, you’re allowed an additional 3 bags on the outside of the cart, with the same 30 lb. weight limit per bag. One residential bulk item per household per week will be collected at no charge. Freon should NOT be left in appliances.  $50 will be charged to your account if Freon is left in an appliance placed out for disposal.  Please contact Granger for any excessive amounts of trash, a large item or a problem with your pick-up.  Phone: 517-372-2800. Any bags in addition to the three (3) extra bags listed above will not be collected unless the resident has scheduled and prepaid with Granger at least forty-eight (48) hours in advance of service.

Pinckney New Customer Guide

Recycling and yard waste pick-up are also provided on alternating weeks, also on Wednesdays. Please see the schedule link above.

Granger’s guide to recycling in Pinckney can be found here: Pinckney Recycling Guide

Please Note: Not seeing the “Recycling Truck?” Don’t be alarmed. Granger does “single line” recycling – this means the recyclables are picked up in one truck and sorted back the site.
All of these services are billed to you each quarter as part of your utility bill (which also includes water and sewer charges)

Yard waste collection runs April through November. Yard debris must be bagged in brown paper bags or in the paper yard waste bags available at most hardware stores.   Please use this service for small twigs and yard debris. Curbside Brush removal will NOT pick up these small items.  Limit of 8 bags per pick-up. Please do NOT use plastic bags for yard waste as Granger is unable to take yard waste in plastic bags.

Curbside Leaf Collection and Brush removal are handled by the Department of Public Works.

Good leaf pile                                                                            Bad leaf pile

Curbside Leaf Collection Program starts the second or third week of October and will run through mid-November. Curbside Brush Removal (see below) is not available during this time, and will resume in the spring.

The Village also provides brush removal on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month (except during curbside leaf collection, see above). Please place brush and branches at the curb, cut ends facing the street. Trees and branches can be no larger than 10″ in diameter and no longer than 8 feet. No stumps.

Christmas Tree Pick up

Christmas Tree pick up is on the annual schedule for early January.  ALL ORNAMENTS, TINSEL, ETC. must be removed from the tree or it can not be picked up.  These items cause damage to the chipper blades which results in expensive repairs.
